British Geological Survey The BGS have a base at Merchiston House in Edinburgh and are a unique source of information on UK ground conditions. British Standards Institute Lots of information on construction standards. Edinburgh University Virtual Library A good search engine for engineering information. The UK Meteorological Office The Met Office provide detailed records of local wind speeds and other weather information used in the investigation of storm damage to buildings. You can also get UK regional weather forecasts here. Building Research Establishment Some good data on building failures. (You'll need "Adobe Acrobat" to read some of the detail.)
